Memphis, once the mighty capital of the Old Kingdom, was a vibrant, bustling metropolis over 5,000 years ago. It stood as a symbol of power, culture, and devotion to the gods. As the seat of kings like Narmer and Ramses II, Memphis was not only the political center of ancient Egypt but also a sacred place, home to the great temple of Ptah, the creator god. Today, its ruins evoke a timeless grandeur, offering visitors a glimpse into a civilization that shaped the course of human history.

Just a short journey from Memphis lies Saqqara, an immense and ancient burial ground that served as the resting place for nobles and royalty. Saqqara is famously home to the Step Pyramid of Djoser, the world’s first monumental stone building, designed by the brilliant architect Imhotep. The site stretches across the desert plateau, filled with magnificent tombs, richly decorated with scenes of daily life, religion, and celebration. Saqqara’s beauty lies not just in its impressive monuments but in the sense of continuity — a landscape where innovation and tradition live side by side..

Walk through the Pyramid Complex of Teti (with pyramid texts inside).
See the Tomb of Kagemni, known for its beautiful carvings of daily life scenes.
Visit the Serapeum, an underground tomb for the sacred Apis bulls (optional).


 

2. Memphis                        


The First Capital of Egypt

Explore Memphis, the ancient capital of Egypt founded by King Menes.

Visit the Open-Air Museum, home to:

1- The Colossal Statue of Ramses II (10 meters tall).

2- The Alabaster Sphinx of Memphis.

Learn about the importance of Memphis in ancient Egyptian history.
