The Valley of the Queens is a beautiful, peaceful place in Egypt where many queens and royal children of the New Kingdom (about 1550–1070 BCE) were laid to rest. It's near the more famous Valley of the Kings, close to Luxor. Instead of huge pyramids, the tombs here were cut into the cliffs, decorated with stunning, colorful paintings showing the queens' journey to the afterlife.
The most famous tomb is that of Queen Nefertari, wife of Ramses II — often called the Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt" because of its breathtaking art.
